The Art Galleries of Basilio Badillo

There is no doubt that Puerto Vallarta is a city that supports the arts and artists.  From urban display spaces, like the city supported graffiti art wall on Avenue Francisco Villa, to the amazing sculptures lining the Malecon, Vallarta is a city where art comes to life.  Second to only Guadalajara in terms of the number of city art galleries, Puerto Vallarta boasts a wide array of gallery spaces particularly on the street of Basilio Badillo in the Romantic Zone.

Galleria Dante is owned by Joe and Claire Guarniere, an Amercian-Canadian couple who have made Puerto Vallarta their home.  Featuring predominately Mexican artists, Galleria Dante also has pieces from around the world including a large exhibit of glasswork and bronze sculptures.

Galeria Contempo is an impressive two-story space housing avante-garde Mexican artists including Irma Griza, Marilo Carral and Luis Espiridion and well as a hand-chosen selection of promising new artists.  It is a wonderful place to explore Mexican contemporary art.

And for those interested in pre-Hispanic and traditional Mexican art, a visit toGaleria Piramide is a must.  Featuring fine reproductions and ceremonial masks, Galeria Piramide is an excellent place to learn about the earliest culture in Mexico.  They also offer daily beaded art demonstrations.
